Obituary for Lola Sawyer Brickhouse
Lola "Jackie" Sawyer Brickhouse, 96, of Columbia died Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Vidant Bertie Hospital in Windsor.
Born October 12, 1921 in Tyrrell County, she was the daughter of the late Algon Sawyer and Sarah Voliva Sawyer and was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin "Joey" Brickhouse; sisters, Beatrice S. Brickhouse, Essie S. Bateman, Mildred S. Hassell, Thelma S. Hollis and Lillian S. Davis; brothers, Sherman Sawyer, Edward Sawyer, Rossie Sawyer and Otis Sawyer. Jackie was a homemaker and worked beside her husband in running the family farm and was a member of Sound Side Missionary Baptist Church. She was a 4-H leader and member of the Home Demonstration Club for many years.
Her family includes her daughters, Loretta B. Edmondson and Ann Brickhouse both of Columbia, N.C.; son, Stuart Lee Brickhouse and wife Peggy of Wilmington, N.C.; grandchildren, Charles F. Brickhouse and wife Teresa, James M. Brickhouse and wife Lisa, Tammy Hedrick and husband John, Starlyn Combs, Dallas M. Simmons, Jr. and wife Laurie, G. Scott McLaughlin and wife Megan, M. Jason McLaughlin, Jennifer Rucker and husband Buddy, Christopher Ward and wife Elizabeth; great grandchildren, Kristen, Will, Austin, Gregory, Jacquelyn, Makenzie, Seth, Sean, Allie Grace, Graham, Hunter, Jordan, Aleeya and Khloe.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Sound Side Missionary Baptist Church, Columbia with Reverend Stephen Duncan, Reverend Earl Hartley, Dr. Jeff Crabtree, Reverend Timothy Hayes and Reverend Joe Wynns officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sound side Missionary Baptist Church and other times at the residence.
Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
