Obituary for Larry Russell Askew
Larry Russell Askew, 64, of Plymouth died Monday, March 26, 2012, at his residence in Plymouth surrounded by his loving family. Born March 10, 1948 in Beaufort County he was the son of the late Russell Bowen Askew and Christine Cutler Askew. Larry was a retired farmer and member of Roper Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for valor in combat. He served on the Washington County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, was a member of the Blackland Farmers, a Washington County 4-H Alumni, member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and The American Legion. His family includes his wife, Billie Carol Elliott Askew of Plymouth, N.C.; daughters, Lora Askew Michael and husband Kevin of Summerfield, N.C., Cindy Askew Reaves and husband Tre of Ayden, N.C.; sister, Ruth A. James of Plymouth, N.C.; brothers, Wayne Askew of Plymouth, N.C., Troy Askew of Plymouth, N.C., Travis Askew of Jamesville, N.C.; grandchildren, Zack and Brooke Michael. Larry will be missed by his loving wife, Billie Carol, family and friends. His love for his family was evident and also his passion for farming. His smile and kind words will be truly missed by all whose life he touched. Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Roper Pentecostal Holiness Church, Roper. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Roper Pentecostal Holiness Church and other times at the residence. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
