Kenneth Leland Spruill, "Doll Baby", age 86, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by family at his home in Roper.
He was born August 27,1936 to the late Johnny James Spruill and Florence Elizabeth Lowe Spruill. He was preceded in death by his daughter Sonja Spruill Day.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Spruill; sons, John Spruill and wife Terri and Wyatt Spruill; step-son, Bradley Riley and wife Billie; grandchildren, Matthew Day, Kalemb Gross and wife Emmie, Adrian Goss, Caitlin Rosillo and husband Nathan, Corey Goss, Aaron Spruill, Emma Reynolds and husband Cameron, Jackson Riley, and Audrey Riley; great grandchildren, Talasha Day, Brianna Clark, Bayla Gross, Briar Gross, and Bonnie Gross; and brother, Danny Spruill and wife Peggy.
Kenneth grew up on the Mill Pond in Roper on the family farm. At the age of 18 he went to work as a pulp tester with Kekeffer. After three years he was drafted and served in the United States Army as an MP at Fort Benning, Georgia for most of three years. He then returned to Weyerhaeuser Paper Company in Plymouth, NC and completed 43 years at various jobs before retiring in 1999 as a furnish tender. Ken was a member of Zion's Chapel Church of Christ in Roper his entire life where he served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and helping those in need. He also enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
Services will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Zion's Chapel Church of Christ in Roper. Visitation with family will follow the service.
