Joyce Davenport Sawyer, 90, of Plymouth NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, August 31, 2023, at ECU Health Bertie Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Joyce was born in Washington County, NC on February 8th, 1933 to the late Russell Earl Davenport and Rennie Eugene "Gene" Davenport. She enjoyed a life filled with family activities and joyous times with her many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Joyce graduated from Creswell High School, and after a few years of college and work, she married the love of her life, Edward Sawyer, Jr. Adored by her husband, children, and grandchildren, she served her family and provided a warm and loving home each day of her life. She was a beloved wife, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor, and friend. She was a devoted follower of Christ, and a long-time member of the Plymouth United Methodist Church.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 69 years, David Edward Sawyer Jr; her daughters, Donna Ritter (Jack) of Williamston, NC and Angie Sherrill (Bobby) of Meridian, MS, grandchildren, Ashley Holloway (Andy), Dr. Cameron Sherrill (Mollie), and Brittany Hill (Lance), as well as her three great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her son, David Edward Sawyer III and her sister Lenita Earline Davenport
Services will be held Monday, September 4th at Plymouth United Methodist Church with Reverend Vickie Woolard officiating. Visitation will take place at 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall followed by a funeral service in the sanctuary at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
