Obituary for Jonathan Boutton 'John' Sawyer, III
Jonathan Boutton 'John' Sawyer, III, 46, of Plymouth died Monday, November 24, 2014, at his residence in Plymouth. Born January 30, 1968 in Beaufort County he was the son of the late Jonathan B. Sawyer, Jr. and Gwendolyn Respass Sawyer. John began his career in law enforcement with the Washington County Sheriff's Department, and later served with the Plymouth Police Department and Gates County Sheriff's Department and was recently elected Sheriff of Washington County. He was the current master of Perserverance Lodge No: 59 AF & AM of Plymouth, a member of the Southern Police Benevolence Association and member of Plymouth Church of Christ. His family includes his wife Denise Owens Sawyer of Plymouth, N.C.; sons, Jonathan B. Sawyer, IV of Plymouth, N.C. and Cody H. Cahoon of Fairfield, California; daughter, Elizabeth Helle of Nevada, Iowa; sisters, Jennifer A. O'Neal of Plymouth, N.C. and Wendy A. Stanley of Indian Trail, N.C.; brothers, Roy Allen, Jr. of Newport Richie, Florida and Robert Allen of Dawsonville, Georgia. Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 11:00 am at Plymouth Church of Christ, Plymouth with Thomas Biggs and Lamar Tillman officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in the Respass-Sawyer Family Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday, November 28, 2014 starting at 6:00 pm at Plymouth Church of Christ and other times at the residence. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
