Obituary for John Bratten Stubbs, Sr.
John Bratten Stubbs, Sr., 95, of Plymouth died Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Vidant Bertie Hospital in Windsor.
Born May 16, 1921 in Washington County he was the son of the late Thomas Adoph Stubbs and Vera Bratten Stubbs and was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Bateman Stubbs and brothers, Thomas A. Stubbs, Jr. and Wilbur Stubbs. John was a retired mechanic with the former Central Garage of Plymouth and member of First Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and served on the LST 360 during the D Day Invasion and later served in the Pacific off the coast of Tokyo, Japan during the time of the atomic bomb being dropped on Hiroshima. He later retired from the US Naval Reserve and was the oldest member of Plymouth Fire Department and former member of the American Legion.
His family includes his sons, John Bratten Stubbs, Jr. and wife Judy Liverman of Lawrenceville, GA. and Gerald Wayne Stubbs and wife Carol Barnes of Roper, N.C.; grandchildren, Gerald W. Stubbs, Jr. and wife Freda, Amy Stubbs Conrad, Jason Stubbs and wife Erin and Jana Stubbs Robinson and husband Brent; great grand children, Kara Elizabeth Stubbs, Jackson Tyler Conrad, Brinley Elizabeth Robinson, Everly Dean Robinson, Callie Olivia Stubbs and Kendall Pratt.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church, Plymouth with Reverend Jimmy Hagwood officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm at First Baptist Church and other times at the residence.
