John Alvin Swinson, Sr., 91, of Jamesville, NC, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Dardens, NC on October 13, 1933 and was the son of the late John Swinson and Vera Mae Sullivan Swinson and was preceded in death by his siblings, Flora Brown, Dorothy Simpson, Faye Lilley, Buck Swinson, and June Kent.
John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nelva Brooks Swinson; daughters, Katherine Elks (David) of Corpus Christi, TX, Sylvia Barnhill (Wade) of Ashland, VA and Geraldine Bickers (Doug) of Youngsville, NC; son, John Swinson, Jr. of Cedar Rapids, IA; eight grandchildren (Caleb, Ethan, Seth, Devin, Jonathan, Lydia, Sara, and Daniel); and two great grandchildren (Ellie and Noah).
John was a graduate of Jamesville High School with the class of 1952. Following high school, he served his country in the U.S. Army. Following his service with the army, he went to work for Weyerhaeuser Corporation where he retired after 46 years.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 28th at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth. Funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens.
