Obituary for Janice Patrick Stillman
On the morning of September 12, 2016, Janice Patrick Stillman of Roper, NC, passed from her earthly home to her heavenly home, surrounded by her family members.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, John Stillman; father, Raymond Patrick; mother, Willie Patrick; sister, Carolyn Frazier and brother-in-law, Robert Spruill. Beloved family members who remain include her sister, Joyce Spruill of Roper, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Hal Davis of Goldsboro, NC; son and daughter-in-law, John and Gretta Stillman of Newton, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Jay Swain of Fuquay-Varina, NC; daughter, Rev. Sandy Stillman-Alvin of Raleigh, NC; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Janice served her church and larger community as a choir director, Sunday School teacher, music minister and teacher since the age of ten when she first played piano for the congregation of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Other congregations served include New Covenant Baptist Church and most recently, Albemarle Baptist Church.
Janice's music ministry, Jan S. Ministries, served many beyond local congregations through her performances and recordings of original Christian worship music. Additionally, she served as a beloved mentor and teacher of piano, voice and guitar to numerous students in the Washington, Tyrrell and Chowan County region.
The Stillman family will gather with loved ones on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Roper, NC. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by a service of remembrance and celebration at noon.
Graveside services will be held after the funeral where Janice will be laid to rest beside her husband, John, in the family's cemetery, Sahara, on the Pea Ridge Road in Roper, NC.
