Obituary for James Carol Davenport
James Carol Davenport, 85, of Creswell died Friday, October 23, 2015, at his residence in Creswell.

Born November 28, 1929 in Washington County he was the son of the late James R. Davenport and Maude Lee Davenport and was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred L. Riddle and Dorothy M. Davenport; brothers, Winton R. Davenport and Stafford W. Davenport. James Carol was a retired paper machine operator with Weyerhaeuser Corporation and a devoted member who held many offices in Mount Hermon United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, member of American Legion Post 391, past member of Washington County Board of Education and past treasurer of the United Papermakers International.

His family includes his wife Gloria Joan Phelps Davenport of Creswell, N.C.; daughter, Denise Davenport Phelps and husband Ricky of Creswell, N.C.; son, Jeff Davenport and special friend Misty Green of Raleigh, N.C.; sister, Maude Grace Davenport and husband Fred of Roper, N.C.; grandchildren, Eric Phelps and Jessica P. Brooks and husband Adam.

Funeral service will be held Monday, October 26, 2015 at 11:00 am at Mount Hermon United Methodist Church with Reverend Tom Hallberg officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends on Sunday, October 25, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home Creswell and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount Hermon United Methodist Church Building Fund or Amedisys Hospice, 1072 U.S. Highway 64 West, Plymouth, N.C. 27962..
