Obituary for Jacqueline Cahoon Smith

Jacqueline (Jackie) Cahoon Smith, 76 years old, went on to meet her Lord and Savior on December 17, 2023 while being treated for several major health issues at ECU Health Chowan Hospital in Edenton, NC.  She was a citizen of Tyrrell County, residing for over 50 years, in the Gum Neck Community where she and her husband of 57 years, Alvin R. Smith, farmed and reared their family.

Jackie loved her family and demonstrated her commitment to them in many different ways over the years.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Glynn T. Cahoon; father, Alton Jack Cahoon; stepfather, Willard L. Cahoon and mother, Margaret B. Cahoon.

She is survived by her loving husband Alvin Randolph Smith; daughter, Angela Marie (Angie) Smith; sons, Alvin R. Smith, Jr. (Buddy) and Glynn R. Smith.  She is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Mallory Smith, Macy Smith, Mattie Smith, Hayden Smith and Ryleigh Smith, a brother, James W. Cahoon, two sisters Ginger C. Hassell and Anita C. Simpson and a large number of nieces and nephews as well as several loving in-laws and extended family members.

Jackie was a dedicated wife and mother, an advocate for children with special needs as well as a strong supporter of her community and advocate for education.  She assisted her husband with the farm business operations and other farming activities.  She served as a board member on the Tyrrell County Board of Education for over 20 years. She was appointed by the Tyrrell County Commissioners to serve as a member of the Tideland Metal Health Board representing Tyrrell County for a number of years.  She also served on many other local committees over the years.  Jackie was a member of Sound Side Original Free Wil Baptist Church and a believer in the birth, death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.  She will be terribly missed by us all as she takes this final journey.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Sound Side Original Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Royce Reynolds officiating.  Family will receive friends at the church following the service.

Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell, NC.
