Obituary for Hilda Inez Tetterton
Hilda (Inez) Leary Tetterton, 87, of Plymouth, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at Roanoke Landing Nursing and Rehab Center in Plymouth.
Inez, an icon of Plymouth and Pantego (Turnpike/Hwy 99), someone who helped create enormous amounts of memories while eating her awesome food or just hanging out has left us. Everyone who darkened her doors was family in her eyes. She had a smile for everyone and words of advice or an occasional scolding to anyone who needed it. Inez was born in Philadelphia, PA. to the late Eva Biggs Leary Garrett and Captain William (Willie) Pearly Leary on September 12, 1932. She was owner and operator of Inez's Quick Lunch in Plymouth for 6 years, Tetterton's Diner for 20 years and a housekeeper for 25 years and also farmed with her beloved husband. She was a member of Plymouth Church of Christ, which was her extended family who she loved so very much. She loved to cook, work in her garden and can vegetables, play Bingo and Dominos and spending time with her family.
Inez was the beloved wife of the late Floyd Vernon Tetterton; precious Mother of 2 children; Nanny of 4 grandsons; 6 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.
Inez is preceded in death by her parents, Eva Biggs Leary Garrett and Captain William (Willie) Pearly Leary; step-father, Joseph Aubrey Garrett; brothers, Bill Leary, Jack Leary, Marvin Leary and Walter Leary; sister, Judy Leary Garrett Roberson Benedetto.
Inez is survived by her daughters, Hilda Tetterton Sitterson and husband Ray and Alice Tetterton Murph and husband Larry of Plymouth; sisters, Marie Leary Yannuzzi and husband Richard of Aston, PA., Audrey June Garrett Waters of Salemburg; grandsons, Ray Edward Sitterson, Jr. and wife Anna of Elizabeth City, Scott Dillon Sitterson and wife Rebecca of Goldsboro, Matthew Justin Sitterson and wife Misty of Baker, NV., Darren Shawn Murph and wife Dana of Bath; great grandchildren, Jessica Sitterson Elliott and husband Weston, Victoria Sitterson van Nortwick and husband Nathan, Whitney Sitterson Craig and husband Jonathan; great grandchildren, Lee Cuningham, Adam Paul Sitterson, Maverick Joseph Murph; great-great grandchildren, Hunter Ray Elliott, Rylan Braycen Elliott, Austyn Rae Craig, Blake Everly Craig, Miles Clark Craig, Harver Grace van Nortwick, Henry Cuningham, Wesley Andrew Cuningham, James Lee Cuningham and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Hilda (Inez) Leary Tetterton will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at 3pm at Plymouth Church of Christ (905 Washington Street, Plymouth, NC). There will not be a visitation held following the service for the safety of those we love and cherish. We will adhere to social-distancing guidelines and the Family Life Center will be open to accommodate larger numbers. Masks will be provided for those who wish to wear them.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Roanoke Landing Nursing and Rehab Center for Mom's daily care and support in her final days.
Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
