Obituary for Helen Fredericks Spruill
Helen Marie Fredericks Spruill, 90, died peacefully in her sleep on March 20, 2018 at her home in Roper surrounded by family.
Helen was born August 16, 1927 in a German family in Denison Iowa. She was the daughter of the late Frederick Fredericks and Elizabeth Vogt Fredericks and was preceded in death by her son, Brian Thomas Spruill. She was the youngest of five children and was preceded in death by her sisters, Laura Huebner, Mary Bohlman and Marie Greider and brothers, Bill Fredericks and Harry Fredericks.
Helen was a five year employee at the FBI Identification Division in the Washington, D.C. Armory where she met and married her husband of seventy years, SA Raymond Spruill (45-81).
Subsequent moves took them to Portland, St. Louis, San Francisco, back to Portland, then to Los Angeles where Ray retired from the San Fernando resident agency.
Helen attended Glendale Community College and retired as a librarian from Herbert Hoover High School in Glendale, CA. She enjoyed her retired life living on private acreage on the Albemarle Sound in North Carolina. Her social activities included the Plymouth Supper Club, Mackey's Civic Club and the Red Hatters Group. She was a member of the Mackey's United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 25, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Mackey's United Methodist Church, Roper with Reverend Sue Barnes Farlow, Gene Waters and Thomas Biggs officiating. Family will receive friends on Sunday at the church following the service and other times at the residence.
