Obituary for Hallet Swinson Davis, Sr.
Hallet Swinson Davis, Sr., 86 of Jamesville died Monday, May 6, 2013, at his residence in Jamesville. Born September 29, 1926 in Martin County he was the son of the late Stephen Frank Davis and Neva Swinson Davis and was preceded in death by his sisters, Lucy Davis Ward and Carolyn Davis Bembridge. Hallet was a retired recovery boiler operator and foreman with Weyerhaeuser Corporation, a gentlemen farmer and member of Gospel Light Church of Christ. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, Past Master and member of Perseverance Lodge No. 59, District Deputy Grand Lecturer, member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner. He was a former Martin County Commissioner from 1992 to 1996, past president of the Southern Albemarle Association and member of Jamesville Ruritan Club. His family includes his wife, Dorothy Spruill Davis of Jamesville, N.C.; sons, Hallet S. Davis, Jr., Jeffrey L. Davis, Sr. and Stephen H. Davis and wife Patricia all of Jamesville, N.C.; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 11:00 am at Gospel Light Church of Christ with Jim Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites and Military Honors. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Gospel Light Church of Christ and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Jamesville Fire & Rescue. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
