Gordon Leon Barnes, 68, of Goldsboro, NC, and formerly of Creswell, NC, passed away on February 3, 2025, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Chowan County, he was the son of Mary Woodley Barnes of Creswell, NC, and the late Jon Wayne Barnes, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jon Wayne Barnes, Jr.
Gordon is survived by his devoted wife, Lynne Hopkins Barnes of Goldsboro, NC; his daughter, Myra Barnes Thompson and husband Todd of Greenville, NC; his beloved dog Spencer; and his cherished grand-dogs, Hudson and Murphy.
A graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Gordon built a successful career in the auto industry. He worked in Burlington and Goldsboro, NC, and for the past 30 years, he was a valued member of Deacon Jones Auto Group.
Gordon found joy in the outdoors, whether walking the dealership lot, tending to his yard, or planting shrubs and flowers. A talented pianist, he played both for church and personal enjoyment.
Above all, Gordon was a devoted family man, known for sharing old stories and humorous tales. His greatest pride and joy were his wife, Lynne, and his daughter, Myra.
A passionate Duke University fan, Gordon especially loved Duke Basketball and attended several NCAA Championship games with Lynne.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Philippi Church of Christ in Creswell, NC, officiated by Glenn Brickhouse. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family may donate to Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC, or Duke University Children's Miracle Network.
