Gerald Frank Tarkington, 90, aka #5 GERALD went to be with the Lord on September 19, 2024.


Born on February 8,1934, Gerald dedicated 44 years to Weyerhaeuser, working primarily on the #5 paper machine and was known as "#5 Gerald".


A veteran of the United States Army, Gerald served his country from 1953 to 1955.

Gerald was an active member of Mount Olive Free Will Baptist Church in Plymouth, NC.  His love for line dancing, golf, and music filled his life with joy and brought joy to others.


He leaves behind his beloved wife of 67 years, Carolyn Beauchemin Tarkington; daughters, Kelly T. Snead (Andy) and C. Elaine Tarkington (Todd Spain); grandchildren, Doug Waters (Kris), Jason Bailey, and Brian Bailey (Yasmin); and three great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister, Judy T. Ange.


Gerald was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna T. Waters, and brother-in-law, Leonard B. Ange.


A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olive Free Will Baptist Church.  Family will receive friends at the church following the service and other times at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Tarkington. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mount Olive Free Will Baptist Church at 5548 Long Ridge Road, Plymouth, NC  27962.


Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
