Obituary for George Washington Moore

Mr. George "Papa George" Washington Moore, 87, of 416 Washington Street, Plymouth, NC, formerly of Jamesville, NC earned his Heavenly Wings Sunday, January 26, 2025 at his home with his daughters at his side.


George was born March 4, 1937 in Pitt County, NC to the late Jim Moore and Annie Ree Hodges Moore.


He was employed by Bob Swain, Inc. for most of his working career with 30 + years of service.  He did mechanic work, maintenance, had his CDL and was Mr. Bob's right-hand man.


In his younger adult years, he enjoyed playing softball, baseball and basketball.  He enjoyed coaching Midget/Little league football.  He made many lifelong friendships during those years.  He was an avid UNC-Chapel Hill Basketball fan and a faithful Washington Redskin fan.


He accepted the Lord into his life at Union Chapel FWB Church in Plymouth, NC where he became a member.  Papa George was known for his generosity, not only to his family and friends, but to anyone in need.


He was the Dirty Dancing Champion at the Town and Country "Night Flight" in Williamston.  He has the trophy to prove it. He was his family's "Walker, Texas Ranger".


He leaves behind three Children:  Todd Moore (Joy), Melissa M. Buck (Doug Swain) and Catherine M. Cox (Darren).  Six Grandchildren:  Reid Radcliffe (Penelope), Hannah M. Torres (Justin), Kaliff Moore (Savannah), Josh Moore, Zachery Moore and Emma Buck.  Seven Great-Grandchildren:  Macy R. Kelly (Chris), Caden Hall, Tyler Radcliffe, Ethan Skinner, McKinley Moore, Raelyn Moore and Cora-Leigh Moore.  Sister:  Margie "Sally" Moore Woolard.  A large number of cherished nieces, nephews and friends.  One Fur Baby:  Blueberry "Blue".


Preceded George in death was a Son, Keith T. Moore. Five Brothers:  Billy Moore, Grover Moore, J.R. Moore, Thomas "Doodlebug" Moore, and Marvin "Jerry" Moore; Two Sisters:  Mildred "Micky" Moore Lancaster and Lillie Marie "Tootsie" Moore Broadway.


Funeral will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.  Burial will follow in the Jamesville Cemetery.  Family will receive friends on Friday, January 31, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
