Obituary for Gail Dickens Davenport
Elizabeth Gail Dickens Davenport, 70, of Creswell died Monday, January 4, 2021, at Vidant Chowan Hospital in Edenton.
Born July 2, 1950 in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina she was the daughter of the late Samuel Arthur Dickens, Sr. and Charlotte Edwards Johnson and was preceded in death by her brother, Samuel Arthur Dickens, Jr.. Gail worked for the Creswell School System in the cafeteria for thirty-six years and most recently worked for Jimbo's Jumbo's in Edenton.
Her family includes her husband, James Harold "Hal" Davenport, Sr. of Creswell, N.C.; daughters, Linda T. Rawls and husband Derrick and Janice T. Stanley and husband Earnell both of Edenton, N.C.; sons, James Harold Davenport, Jr. and wife Lewellyn of Washington, N.C. and Jerry Wayne Johnson of Creswell, N.C.; sisters, Barbara Delagarza and husband Nicholas of Chesapeake, VA., Carolyn Winstead and husband Charles of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Donna Corville and husband David of Norco, LA., and Robin Sangster and husband Robert of Nolanville, TX.; brother, Forest Alan Dickens of Chesapeake, VA.; grandchildren, Dylan Davenport and Samantha Joyner, Brittney Davenport, Eli Davenport, Madison Cherry, Jerry Wayne Midgett, Alexzandrea Stanley, Lee Person, Justice Slade and husband Coley and Jennifer Hobbs; great grandchildren, Chanler, Wavion, Zamari, Elijah, Ezekial, Gabriella, Josiah, Dashawn, James Jr. and Melady.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell with Bob Moulden officiating. Family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Due to COVID-19 we request that face masks be worn and that we social distance.
