Obituary for Fred Seaton Spencer
Fred Seaton Spencer, age 81, of Creswell, NC, died Monday, December 6, 2021, peacefully at home with his family. He was born in Creswell on April 10, 1940 to the late Kathleen Furlough Spencer and Jones Edward Spencer and predeceased by his brother, Nathan Edward Spencer and sister, Elizabeth Spencer Rose.
Fred was the retired founder and operator of Bell Grey Farms, Bell Grey Picker Head Repair and Bell Grey Well Drilling. In 1964 the Plymouth Junior Chamber of Commerce chose him as the "Outstanding Young Farmer" in Washington County. In 1972 NC Governor James E. Holshouser, Jr. awarded Fred with the North Carolina Farmers Home Administration "Farm Family of the Year" Award for his outstanding engineering and production of new farming equipment designs and excellence in farming practices. He was a lifetime member of Scuppernong Church of Christ. Having a passion to collect antique cars, Fred was a member of the International Model T Ford Club - Albemarle Area Chapter and the Cape Henry Model A Ford Club where he was often seen on road trips with friends and in local parades. Fred was known for his strong work ethic, jovial nature, generous spirit and being the first to lend a helping hand but perhaps was best known for his homemade ice cream. He was a loving husband, dedicated father and the very best grandfather. His family will miss him immensely but will cherish the memories and find peace knowing his health has been fully restored in his heavenly home.
Fred is survived by his wife, Wilma Twiddy Spencer of the home; his son, Freddie Lee Spencer and wife Laura Landino Spencer and their children Miriam Spencer Duva (Justin Christopher Duva) and Joseph Seaton Spencer; his son, Jones Alan Spencer, Sr. and his children Jones Alan Spencer, Jr. (Hayley Baur Spencer) and Abigail Hope Spencer; his daughter, Kristana Spencer Copeland and husband Sidney Gene Copeland, Jr. and their children Sidney Gene Copeland III and William Spencer Copeland (Christen Belch Copeland); daughter-in-law, Donna Swain Spencer; granddaughter-in-law, Heather Roughton Spencer; grandchildren, Olivia Gretchen Holton and Matthew Henry Holton; great grandchildren, Farrah Hope Spencer, Jones Alan Spencer, III and Delilah Grace Dickerson.
