Obituary for Fred Blount Davenport, Sr.
Fred Blount Davenport, Sr., 90, of Roper died Tuesday, December 31, 2019, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville surrounded by his loving family.
Born October 12, 1929 in Washington County he was the son of the late William Blount Davenport and Sophia Forbes Davenport and was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Davenport; brothers, John F. Davenport, Reynold S. Davenport and William B. Davenport, Jr. Fred was a retired wood scaling supervisor with 36 years service with Weyerhaeuser Corporation and member of Mackeys United Methodist Church. He was a past master and member of Perseverance Lodge No: 59 A.F. & A. M. of Plymouth, member of Mackeys Civic Club and former member of Mackeys Ruritan Club.
His family includes his wife, Maude Grace Davenport of Roper, N.C.; sons, Fred B. Davenport, Jr. of Wilmington, N.C., Donald A. Davenport of Roper, N.C., Jerry E. Davenport and wife Hannah of Roper, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Celia Davenport; grandchildren, Carlie Davis, Michael Davenport, Hunter Davenport and Evan Davenport; great grandchild, Magnolia Davis.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, January 5, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Mackeys United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Davenport Family Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Saturday, January 4, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Mackeys United Methodist Church and other times at the residence. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Mackeys United Methodist Church, c/o Vonnie Furlough, 211 General Pettigrew Drive, Plymouth, N.C. 27962 or charity of choice.
