Obituary for Fred Allen Davenport
Fred Allen Davenport, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.

Born March 17, 1935 in Washington County, he was the youngest child of the late Ellis Lloyd Davenport and Lelia Leona Allen Davenport. A graduate of East Carolina University, he was employed in the public schools of Maryland and North Carolina for forty years. After returning to Plymouth, Washington County, NC in August 1969, he held numerous positions with Washington County Schools including teacher and principal before retiring on October 1, 1996 as the associate superintendent.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Plymouth, NC where he served as chairman of the board of deacons and as a trustee. He was also a member of the Plymouth Rotary Club, serving as secretary-treasurer for many years both before and after serving as its president in 1975. In 1993, he was named a Paul Harris Fellow in honor of his service to the Plymouth Rotary Club and community.

He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly forty-eight years, Catherine Raper Davenport on July 2, 2005 and by his brother, Lloyd B. Davenport of Columbia, NC and sisters Isabel Davenport and Zola D. Wright, both of Plymouth, NC.

He is survived by his daughter, Lelia Allen Davenport and her husband Herbert M. Rodell of Cary, NC, his brother, Hansel V. Davenport of Aulander, NC and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Maitland Funeral Home, 306 Latham Avenue, Plymouth, NC on Saturday, October 24, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and other times at the residence.

A Celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church, Plymouth, NC with a graveside service immediately following at Hillside Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers donations would be gratefully appreciated to First Baptist Church, Davenport Scholarship Fund, PO Box 400, Plymouth, NC 27962; or the Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice, C/O Vidant Medical Center Foundation, PO Box 8489, Greenville, NC 27835-8489.
