Obituary for Ernest "Happy" Elks
Ernest Dempsey "Happy" Elks, 79, of Plymouth died Friday, January 6, 2017, at Three Rivers Health and Rehabilitation Center in Windsor.
Born July 6, 1937 in Pitt County he was the son of the late Ernest Laymond Elks and Ruby Mae Arnold Elks and was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Lucille Grissom Elks; sister, Joann Elks and brothers, Howard Elks and Joe Arnold. Happy was a retired paper maker with 42 years service with Weyerhaeuser Corporation and a member and deacon of Hope Free Will Baptist Church.
His family includes his wife, Jeanette Pollard Elks of Plymouth, N.C.; daughter, Donna Elks Chesson of Nags Head, N.C.; sons, William Dempsey Elks and wife Anita of Raleigh, N.C. and David Ray Elks and wife Katherine of Kerrville, Texas; sister, Rowann Elks McLamb of Greenville, N.C.; brother, Laymond Delano Elks of Ayden, N.C.; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Plymouth Church of Christ, Plymouth with Pastor Leonard Bowers and Pastor Sherman Branch officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm at Plymouth Church of Christ and other times at the residence. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Hope Free Will Baptist Church, 156 Roxie Reese Road, Plymouth, N.C. 27962.
