Obituary for Emory Dorman VanHorn
Emory Dorman VanHorn, 72, of Creswell died Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington. Born November 28, 1941 in Princess Anne County, Virginia he was the son of the late Willie Earl VanHorn and Mary Snell VanHorn and was preceded in death by his brothers, Sidney E. VanHorn and Harlan M. VanHorn. Emory was a retired self-employed carpenter, an avid hunter and sportsman. In the early sixties, he had the opportunity to pitch a baseball game against a local team that included Jim 'Catfish' Hunter. His family includes his wife, Joyce Sexton VanHorn of Creswell, N.C.; daughters, Lynn V. Cuquet and husband Mike of Front Royal, Va. and Lisa VanHorn and fiance' Marcus Dawson of Dover, N.C.; sister, Sherry V. Spruill and husband Harry of Columbia, N.C.; grandchildren, Matthew Brabble and Cody Mullins; great grandchildren, Allie Brabble, Landon Brabble, Lyneisha Leasure, Nichole Leasure, Nathan Leasure and Marcy Dawson. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 6:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell with Reverend Leonard Bowers officiating. Family will receive friends on Tuesday at the funeral home following the service and other times at the residence. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
