Obituary for Edna Mizelle Stevenson
Edna Mizelle Stevenson, 92, of Jamesville, affectionately known as 'Grandmama Steve' went to be with her Saviour on Thursday, July 12, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Stevenson on July 31, 1992, and her son, James Edward Stevenson on May 30, 2002. She is survived by a son, William Curtis Stevenson of Elizabeth City, N.C.; two daughters, Jean Hardison and her husband Bobby and Diane Reason and her husband Bobby both of Jamesville, N.C.; fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Francis Ange of Jamesville, N.C. and several nieces and nephews. Grandmama Steve was born in Jamesville Township on May 6, 1920 to Maude Elizabeth Mizelle and James Milton Mizelle. She lived all her life in Jamesville and was a devoted member of Jamesville Christian Church. She was very active in the Christian Women's Fellowship and was always ready to help with any projects that were going on. On the fourth Sunday in September (Homecoming) she always was there to invite anyone and everyone to come eat with her and made them all feel welcome. She always had plenty of food and good food. When she was twelve years old she became a member of the Choir. She loved music so very much. She was an active member of the Jamesville Christian Church Choir for seventy-five years. Her membership in the Jamesville Woman's Club dated back to the beginning of the Club. She was a Charter member and volunteered much of her time in the Club's Projects to improve the Jamesville Community which she loved so very much. During World War II she worked at the Pulp Mill (Weyerhaeuser) in Plymouth, North Carolina and worked many years at Brown's Grocery in Jamesville. She was an avid homemaker always believing cleanliness was so very important. Grandmama Steve's home in Jamesville was always open to her family and friends and her kindness and generosity were well known throughout the area. She loved the Lord and never failed to let you know it. She attended many other church services on Sunday nights and became a part of many church families and was loved by all. She always said, 'Remember we're all working for the same thing---Heaven.' She was a generous hostess and cooked many wonderful meals. Only the good Lord knows how many pots of chicken and pastry, homemade biscuits, cakes and etc. she took to those who were sick or just had a need and with the food she brought good cheer and a great big smile. She spread her love and gave her life serving and caring for others. Her life was spent in simple acts of kindness. She believed, 'We make a living by what we get -- we make a life by what we GIVE.' Memorials may be given to the Jamesville Christian Church Building Fund, PO Box 277, Jamesville, N.C. 27846. Flowers are also welcomed. One of her greatest loves was the Jamesville Christian Church and her church family. Her greatest desire was to see the church replaced. Grandmama Steve will be greatly missed by her family, church family and all her friends. Funeral service will be held Saturday,July 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Jamesville Christian Church, Jamesville with Reverend Doug Stokes officiating. Burial will follow in the Jamesville Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday, July 13, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jamesville Christian Church and other times at the residence of her daughter Diane Reason. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
