Dorothy Gerald "Dot" House, 94, of Plymouth, NC, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2024, surrounded by her loving daughters.
Born on July 21, 1930, in Florence, SC, Dot was the beloved daughter of Levy and Louise Gerald. She grew up in both Florence and Loris, SC, alongside her cherished sister, Elizabeth, in a tight-knit family filled with love and laughter. After graduating high school, Dot began her career as a bookkeeper in Florence, where fate soon introduced her to the love of her life, a recent UNC graduate named Jack House. The two met in 1950 and were married less than a month later, beginning a remarkable partnership that would span decades and bring them to Plymouth, NC, where they would plant deep roots.
Dot's first year in Plymouth was just the beginning of a life defined by her radiant smile, generous heart, and unwavering devotion to her family, friends, community, and church. She welcomed everyone into her home, creating a space where love, warmth, and hospitality flourished. As a wife, mother, and friend, Dot was known for her nurturing spirit, always there to listen, offer advice, and provide a comforting presence.
Throughout her 94 years, Dot embodied grace and kindness. She was an active member of her church and local community, contributing her time and talents to various social and charitable efforts. Her compassion, service, and love will continue to shine through the many lives she touched.
Dot's legacy will continue to grow through her family and daughters: Lynda Newman and husband Don, Cheryl Chesson and husband Stan, and Julia Jordan and husband Clyde. Dot's beloved grandchildren --- Doug, Stephanie, Caroline and Worth.
Dot's great-grandchildren --- Darcy, Callie, Daniel, Chelsey, Meredith, Charley, and Claire. All will carry forward the lessons of love and kindness she instilled in them.
A service celebrating Dot's life will be held at the Plymouth United Methodist Church on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at
2:00 p.m. with Reverend Vickie Woolard officiating. Family and friends are invited to meet and remember Dot's life at 1:00 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.
