Obituary for Donald Andre Davenport, Sr.
Donald was born to parents Mack and Vertie Davenport in Roper, NC. He had two brothers, M.J. and Floyd, both deceased.
He was married to Joyce Marie Jefferson on April 29, 1955. Donald and Joyce lived in Plymouth, NC during their married life and raised their family there. Joyce preceded him in death on August 18, 2020. Donald went to be with the Lord while at home.
Donald was a member of the Roper Pentecostal Holiness Church and attended there with Joyce and his children. He was a deacon in the church, A Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir in early years. He often helped build ramps for the handicapped with other men in the church.
He was a hard worker and worked for Weyerhaeuser in Plymouth, NC for 44 years until his retirement with his last job position as a millwright. Donald was an avid hunter and raised many beautiful hunting dogs. He enjoyed golfing at the Plymouth Country Club and playing pool with his friends and family in his home. He enjoyed building and repairing things. A favorite activity was jumping on his cub cadet lawn mower and cutting grass.
Donald and Joyce have three children: Donald Andre Davenport, Jr. (wife, Wanda), Bonita Marie Davenport, and Donna Crystal Davenport Jones. He has two grandsons, Nicholas Alexander Davenport (wife, Amy) and Richard Allen Davenport. He was able to enjoy a brief time with his 17 month old great grandson, Harvey Alexander Davenport.
The funeral service will be at Roper Pentecostal Holiness Church on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.. Reverend Tommy Oliver will officiate. The interment will be at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Plymouth, NC. The family will remain at the church to receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Roper Pentecostal Holiness Church at PO Box 116, Roper, NC 27970.
