Obituary for David Winston Hewitt
David Winston Hewitt, 73, of Plymouth died Saturday, January 25, 2014, at his residence in Plymouth following a courageous battle with cancer. Born August 18, 1940 in Pender County he was the son of the late Howard Rhodes Hewitt and Nina Wooten Hewitt Huffman and was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Hewitt Martin and Rebecca Hewitt Harris; brothers, Howard Allen Hewitt, A.W. Huffman and Faywin Huffman. David was a retired paper manufacturing machine tender with Weyerhaeuser Corporation a U.S. Air Force veteran and member of First Baptist Church. His family includes his wife Sandra Leggett Hewitt of Plymouth, N.C.; daughter, Cynthia Hewitt Kellam of Wilmington, N.C.; son, David Winston Hewitt, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV.; brother, Darrell Eugene Huffman of Annadale, Va.; sisters, Delorise Hewitt Heath of Brandon, FL., Margaret Hewitt Murray of Wilmington, N.C., Evelyn Hewitt Melton of Wilmington, N.C., Natalie Huffman Moore of Newport, N.C. and Nancy Huffman Zawodny of Suffolk, Va.; grandchildren, David Corbit Kellam, Jr. and John Leggett Kellam; honorary granddaughter, Lissia Commander. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church with Reverend Jimmy Hagwood and Father Henry Burdick officiating. Burial will follow in Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Tuesday after the funeral and burial services at Grace Episcopal Church Parrish Hall. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
