Obituary for Curtis Edward 'Curt' Barfield
Curtis Edward 'Curt' Barfield, 82, of Plymouth died Monday, March 24, 2014, at Washington County Hospital in Plymouth. Born July 7, 1931 in Pitt County he was the son of the late Jesse Wilbur Barfield and Elizabeth Deaver Barfield and was preceded in death by his sister, Sara B. Persinger and brother, Bobby G. Barfield. Curt was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran with 24 years service and served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He worked in the maintenance department at Weyerhaeuser Corporation and owned Curt's Locksmith Shop until his retirement. He was a member of the Plymouth Lion's Club and member and deacon of First Baptist Church. Curt was a good, humble, life-loving man...who cared about his family, friends, church and Duke basketball. He battled sickness for the better part of his adult life, beginning with colon cancer and later esophageal cancer. He fought the good fight, rarely complained, and accepted the hand dealt to him, which he played it as well as he could. He will be greatly missed. His family includes his wife, Shirley Tripp Barfield of Plymouth, N.C.; daughter, Cynthia B. Rose and husband Geoff of Springerville, AZ.; son, W. Martin Barfield and wife Sandra of Chocowinty, N.C.; sister, Peggy James of Colorado Springs, CO.; grandchildren, Caroline Allen and husband Sam, Beth McDonald and Curtis Tripp Barfield. Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church, Plymouth with Reverend Jimmy Hagwood, Dr. Dennis Burton and Bob Moulden officiating. Family will receive friends on Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 1:30 to 2:30 pm at First Baptist Church and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 309 Washington Street, Plymouth, N.C. 27962. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
