Obituary for Charles Edward Spencer Brinn
Charles Edward Spencer Brinn passed peacefully at Washington County Hospital in Plymouth on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the age of 93. Charles was a loving, fun-loving and charismatic man who drew people to him with his charm and zest for life. After graduating from Columbia High School, he attended what was then East Carolina College where he played on the baseball team as second baseman. After college, Charles worked in sales and customer service, where his gift with people insured success. In 1943 he was drafted into WWII. At one point during the war, when he realized he and his brothers Harold and Jimmy were in close proximity, Charles used some 'creative appropriations' skills to secure transport(his Major's jeep) and brought the three brothers together for a brief reunion. This moment was captured in a picture and reported back to a local paper as 'The Meeting of the Big Three'. Later in life, upon his retirement, he devoted much of his energies to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in which he served as Commander of his post from 1998 to 2000. He is predeceased by his parents Mary Spencer and Harold C. Brinn and brothers Harold H. and Jimmy G. Brinn. He is survived by his sister Ann Brinn Ward of Chesapeake, Virginia. Other survivors include sister-in-law, Katherine Morris Brinn and nieces and nephews, Anise Ward-Connor and husband Tom of Norfolk, Virginia, Gwen DeJesus and husband Frank of Chesapeake, Virginia, David Ward and wife Wendy of Chesapeake, Virginia, Daniel Ward and wife Dawn of Chesapeake, Virginia, Lois Ann Daniels and husband Dan of Clearwater, Florida, Dawn Brinn of Tampa, Florida and Jill Brinn Bauer and husband Frank of Olympia, Washington. Charles was also blessed with nine great and four great-great nieces and nephews. A celebration of Charles' life will be held Sunday, May 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell with Reverend Frank Alexander officiating. Family will recieve friends Sunday at the Funeral Home following the service. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home of Creswell.
