Barbara Frances McNair Sexton, 87, of Plymouth went home to be with her Lord and Savior early Wednesday, January 31st, surrounded by her children.
Barbara was born May 4, 1936, in Plymouth, NC, to the late Harry D. McNair and Laura Bowen McNair.
Barbara started her career as a secretary for Plymouth Pulp and Paper and East Carolina Supply before joining and retiring from the Family businesses, McNair Florist and McNair Catering. For over 40 years, she, her mother, and sister served many families in the area.
Barbara was the drum major for her high school marching band and graduated Salutatorian of her Senior Class. Barbara was an avid high school basketball player and held the top scoring record until recent years. As a young mother she was active in Cub Scouts as a Den Mother for many years.
Barbara was an active member of Hope Free Will Baptist Church. She was quick to volunteer for many activities and enjoyed decorating for all occasions as well as coordinating special events. Her love for her Church and her Church Family was beyond measure. Barbara was also a volunteer at the Plymouth Food Pantry.
Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Lloyd Sexton; her daughter, Deborah Waters Bland; and her sister, Lois McNair Hardison. She is survived by her son, Robert Harry Sexton; her daughters, Laura Jane Sexton Corey (Billy), and Kimberly Sexton Modlin (Mike); brother-in-law, Tommy Hardison. She had five grandchildren, Elliott Keith Ambrose, Madison Makenzie Ambrose (Joshua), Robert Neil Modlin (Jessica), Howard Bryant Modlin, Melissa Dare Modlin (Tyler). She had five great grandchildren; Masen Modlin, Maverick Modlin, Marina Allen, Colby Henderson, and Olivia Henderson.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Maitland Funeral Home, 306 Latham Avenue, Plymouth, NC and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be held at Hope Free Will Baptist Church, 156 Roxie Reese Road, Plymouth, NC on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Windley Cemetery, Roosevelt Avenue, Plymouth, NC.
