Obituary for Bailey C. Phelps, Sr.
Mr. Bailey Caswell Phelps, Sr., 86 of Plymouth died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Washington County Hospital, Plymouth.
Born March 8, 1924 in Washington County he was the son of the late Bailey F. Phelps and Clara Phelps and was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Bateman Phelps and brother, Arley Phelps. Bailey was a retired millwright and preventive maintenance inspector with Weyerhaeuser Corporation for 48 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II with service in the European Theater and member of Philippi Church of Christ.
His family includes his daughter, Denise Phelps Nobles and husband Lloyd of Plymouth, N.C.; sons, Bailey Caswell Phelps, Jr. and wife Deane of Jamesville, N.C., Joseph Michael Phelps, Sr. and wife Gloria of Washington, N.C., James Frederick Phelps and wife Esther of Denver, CO; sister, Audrey P. Lassiter of Aulander, N.C.; brothers, Stephen D. Phelps and Avery A. Phelps of Plymouth, N.C., Lindsey Wayne Phelps of Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Jeffery B. Phelps and wife Crystal, Jason T. Phelps and wife Meredith, Joseph M. Phelps, Jr., Jessica D. Guth and husband Joe, Kimberly J. Nobles, Kristin A. Nobles-White and husband Trent; great grandchildren, Nicholas Phelps, Holly Phelps, Samantha Phelps, Taylor Phelps, Kelsey Westbrook, Kaitlin Westbrook and Hunter Westbrook.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 11:00 am at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth with Reverend Jimmy Hagwood officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, 30-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C. 27834 for the Bailey C. Phelps, Sr. memorial fund through Washington County Relay for Life. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
