Obituary for Arthur Elliott 'Bud' Cockrell
Arthur Elliott 'Bud' Cockrell, 72, of Belhaven died Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at his residence in Belhaven. Born November 22, 1939 in Nash County he was the son of the late Arthur Lee Cockrell and Mary Elliott Cockrell and was preceded in death by his half-brother, J.D. Richardson. Bud was an Attorney At Law, a member of Plymouth United Methodist Church and attended Bethany United Methodist Church of Belhaven. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and his Law Degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He served as town attorney for Belhaven and Plymouth and was a former member of the Board of Directors for Washington County Hospital. He was a member of the Plymouth Lions Club, Plymouth Ruritan Club, River Rat Yacht Club of Belhaven and coached girl's softball. His family includes his wife Toni Magee Cockrell; daughters, Christy Cockrell Twiddy and husband Chris and Dana Cockrell Eaves and husband Clint; son, James Andrew Cockrell; step-son, Eli Jackson Phelps, II; sister, Betty Cockrell Troutman; grandchildren, Tanner Twiddy, Ashlee Twiddy, Delaney Eaves and Alexander Eaves. Memorial service will be held Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth with Reverend Doctor Burke Holland and Billy Leggett officiating. Family will receive friends on Saturday at the funeral home following the service. Memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army or charity of choice. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
