Obituary for Albin Gray Holton, Sr.

Albin "Al" Gray Holton, Sr., 80, of Roper, died on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at ECU Health Chowan Hospital in Edenton surrounded by his loving family.


Born in Tyrrell County on March 1, 1943 to the late Vernon Lansing Holton and Virginia Davenport Holton and was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Forbes.  Al was employed by Weyerhaeuser/Domtar for over 60 years as an E&I Technician in the Power and Recovery Department.  He was a long-time member of Scuppernong Church of Christ in Creswell.  In recent years he and his family attended Countryside Church of Christ in Edenton.  


His family includes his loving wife of 61 years, Ethel McGowan Holton; sons, Albin "Al" Holton, Jr. (Gay) of Plymouth, NC, Chris Holton (Tammy) of Edenton, NC, and Kevin Holton (Amanda) of Creswell, NC; aunt, Ruth H. Clifton of Greenville, NC; grandchildren, Nicholas Holton (Caroline), Nathaniel Holton (Jordan), Braxton Holton, Olivia Holton, Matthew Holton and great grandchild, Stetson Gray Holton; also numerous cousins in the Holton and Davenport families, and devoted friends Lisa Titus and Juanita Washington.  


The family is very appreciative of Al's supportive family of co-workers at Domtar.


Graveside service will be held Friday, March 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Scuppernong Church of Christ, Creswell.  Family will receive friends at the graveside following the service and other times at the residence.


Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
