Obituary for Albin "Al" Hamilton, Jr.
Albin "Al" Hamilton, Jr., 64, died at his home in Columbia, NC on Thursday, November 12, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.
Al was born in Columbia, NC on January 29, 1956 and lived most of his life in the Bulls Bay area of Tyrrell County on the Albemarle Sound. While Al went to school in Williamston, NC and lived there briefly as a young adult, he always loved Bulls Bay and returned to spend his life on the water. Al enjoyed boating and water sports and as a teen and young adult spent countless hours water skiing, boating, and rafting. Late in life, he enjoyed fishing as well. Al loved riding his golf cart to visit his many friends and neighbors at Bulls Bay.
He was a loving son to his mother, Mittie Hamilton, with whom he resided for many years. His companionship was a great comfort to her and will be sorely missed.
In addition to his mother, Al is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Angela and Matt Matthews of Wake Forest, NC; a nephew, Courtland Matthews of Songdo, South Korea; and a niece, Kate Russell and husband David of Cambridge, Massachusetts. Al was predeceased by his father, Albin Hamilton.
Cremation arrangements will be through Maitland Funeral Home of Creswell, NC. A private memorial and scattering of ashes will be held at a later time with immediate family. To honor Al's love of animals, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saving Grace Animal Rescue and Adoption at savinggracenc.org or the Humane Society at humanesociety.org. Arrangements will be announced by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
