Obituary for Albert Ryder
Albert Ryder, 82, of Columbia died Saturday, October 20, 2018, at his residence in Columbia.
Born July 18, 1936 in Buffalo, New York he was the son of the late George Ryder and Violet Smith Ryder. Albert graduated in 1960 from the U.S. Naval Academy and served twenty five years in the U.S. Navy on destroyers, submarines and aircraft carriers. He retired in 1979 from the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant Commander. After his retirement he attended San Diego University and graduated with a master's degree in Geology. He worked for EXXON Corporation as a geologist and then worked with a telephone company. His last career he became a high school science teacher. Fishing, hunting and working in his orchard were some of his favorite pastimes. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, Shriners, American Legion and active member of several Amateur Radio Clubs.
His family includes his wife, Katina Coutscoudis Ryder of Columbia, N.C.; daughter, Amy Peck and husband Jeremy of Kennewick, WA.; son, Alan Ryder and wife Angela of Vail, AZ.; sister, Evelyn Lewis and husband Donald of Grand Island, N.Y.; four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held Monday, November 19, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell with Pastor Leonard Bowers officiating. Donations in his honor may be made to the Salvation Army.
