Obituary for A. J. Riddle, Jr.

Arch Jesse "AJ" Riddle, Jr., 87, of Roper, passed peacefully on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family.


Born April 11,1935 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Arch Jesse Riddle, Sr. and Leone Arps Riddle.  He earned his BA in Business Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill and then served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  AJ had a long career at East Carolina Supply where he served as general manager.  He was a devoted life-long member of the Plymouth United Methodist Church.  He held many offices in the church and often taught Sunday school.  He was a past president of the Plymouth Lions Club, a member of the Plymouth Jaycees, and Chairman of the Ernest G. Arps Memorial Education Fund.  AJ will be fondly remembered for his kind nature, quick wit and bountiful tomato crop which he shared generously.


His family includes his loving wife, Mary Frances Martin Riddle of Roper, NC; daughter, Holly Riddle Zuniga and husband Gilbert of Los Angeles, CA; sons, Arch Jesse Riddle III and wife Lisa of San Francisco, CA and Michael Lawrence Riddle and wife Steffi of Cumming, GA; sisters, Betty R. Barnhill of Raleigh, NC and Sue E. Allen of Plymouth, NC; grandchildren, Max Riddle, Fiona Riddle, Julian Zuniga and Gus Zuniga and his beloved dog Kati.


Graveside service will be held Sunday, February 26, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillside Memorial Gardens, with Reverend Vickie Woolard officiating.  Family will receive friends at Plymouth United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall following the graveside service.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Plymouth United Methodist Church at PO Box 734, Plymouth, NC 27962.


Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
