Obituary for Jack O. Barnes, Sr.
Jack O. Barnes, Sr., 89, of Creswell died Friday January 26, 2018, at Vidant Chowan Hospital in Edenton.

Born January 21, 1929 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Harvey Odell Barnes and Esther Woodley Barnes and was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Ambrose Barnes; grandson, Joshua Phelps; sister, Ruby B. Burgess and brother, Edsel G. Barnes, Sr. Jack was the founder and owner of Barnes Logging Company of Creswell and member of Mount Hermon United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the Creswell Volunteer Fire Department, former Creswell Town Council member, former Creswell Board of Education member, a gentleman farmer and avid bear hunter.

His family includes his daughters, Rhonda B. Biggs and husband Dennie and Teresa B. Phelps and husband Alan both of Creswell, N.C.; son, Jack O. Barnes, Jr. and wife Connie of Plymouth, N.C.; sister, Jean B. White of Creswell, N.C.; grandchildren, Kelli Phelps and husband Andy, Joseph Biggs and wife Laura, Traci Rush and husband Tracy, Alan Phelps, Jr., Victoria Barnes and Katie Barnes; great grandchildren, Hunter Phelps, Evan Phelps, Reagan Phelps, J.M. Biggs, Tucker Rush, Tyler Rush and Adaley Biggs.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 11:00 am at Mount Hermon United Methodist Church, Creswell with Reverend Chris O'Briant officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends on Monday, January 29, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Mount Hermon United Methodist Church and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Creswell Volunteer Fire Department or Mount Hermon United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
